We are going to a Memorial Day gathering later today, and I volunteered to bring a dessert. Flipping through the May issue of Martha Stewart Living (yes, I subscribe, and no, I am not ashamed), there was a recipe for rhubarb buckle. Never having made a buckle, I was intrigued. It is interesting how many different variations there are on the basic theme: crisps, cobblers, bettys, buckles, pandowdies, and grunts. They are all made with fresh fruit, though the layers and toppings differ. A buckle involves a thin cake layer, topped by the fruit and then a crumbly topping. Apparently they are most traditionally made with blueberries, so perhaps I will do another one for the Fourth of July.
It has been a long time since I posted anything on this blog. Maybe I just needed a break. It certainly is not the case that I haven't been cooking; plenty of good food. Now I probably won't remember any of it. I'll just have to cook and grow some more...
